Mini adventure. Maximum reward.

🌄 A Return to Simplicity, Wild Camping With the poodles.
After a rough ride in the Berwyns and a still sore hip, I decided to ease myself back in with a smaller wild camping adventure, heading back to the place where our first night under the stars took shape. With the heatwave lingering, we delayed our start and reached the car park just after 4pm.

It was cooler up high, but the wind had other ideas blustery and bold. I kept the walk gentle at just 3 miles. The reduced distance made all the difference, especially since I managed to cut my backpack down to 14kg this time. A small victory that made a big impact on my confidence.

The real star of this trip though? My new tent, the Vango F10 Ultralight Nexus. After the noise and shake from my previous tent in windy conditions, this one felt like a fortress. Yes, the wind still rustled it now and then, but it was quieter, sturdier, and more confidence-boosting than I’d hoped.

I hunted around a while before settling on the most sheltered pitch I could find. I also brought my Kilos Gear sleeping mat, which was super comfortable. I’m still a bit unsure on the R-rating, but it did the job well enough for a breezy night.

The boys were snug as ever, curled up in the tent, clearly pleased to be out again. As I cooked up a warm meal and watched the light fade across the hills, it felt like things had clicked again. I might not be back to full strength yet, but this trip, small as it was, reminded me why I love this so much.

Sometimes, the simplest adventures bring the biggest rewards.
