New gear day!

New gear day! 💙
The KILOS Gear sleeping mat finally arrived — the blue one with the separate pillow that straps on. I was very excited to open this parcel (who doesn’t love new kit?) and first impressions are… actually pretty good!

I’ll admit it — I fell for the advertising. It kept popping up everywhere, and eventually I caved. Turns out, I’m a sucker for slick videos and promises of “ultralight comfort.”

It’s definitely comfier than my current cheap mat, and the pillow setup is a nice touch. Feels solid, packs down neatly, and looks well put together. I haven’t slept on it yet, so we’ll see how it holds up in the real world.

Is it worth the price tag? I’m not sure yet.
Is the R rating as good as they say? No idea.
But I’ll know more once I’ve taken it out on my next adventure — ideally somewhere cold, windy, and character-building. 😂

It took 6 days to arrive from China, which was faster than expected. So far, so promising — updates to follow after a few nights on the ground.

Next stop: the hills. 🏕️

Update! September 2025

I've now used the sleeping pad a handful of times and although it is indeed very comfotable, and far more comfortable than anything else I've had, I am not imporessed with its insulation properties at all. On a warm sumers night it was cold to lay on. Not what I was expecting form an R -rating of 5! I believe this is a manufactuoring defect and have since recieved 50% of the purchase price as an apology. Still, not good when you expect your gear to do what it's meant to out in the wild! I've hear lots of people have had good experiences with this sleeping pad, but I however would not reccommend it and it's back to the drawing board for me for another one.
