PUPDATE – Warnscale Adventures
Through the Eyes of Teddy & Buddy
“We explored. We climbed. We watched the sun go down.”
🐾 Teddy: The Thinker
When Dad clipped on our leads and packed the big rucksack, I knew this wasn’t just an ordinary walk. Buddy was already bouncing off the walls, but I could tell from the stove and sleeping bag being packed that this was a serious outing. The kind that stays with you.
I wore my cooling vest on the way up. It really works – kept me steady and comfortable even when the sun was warm on the climb. Buddy laughed at me at first, but I noticed he wasn’t laughing when I was trotting along cool as anything while he was panting.
Our first stop was Warnscale Bothy. Quiet, calm, and filled with history. I walked straight to the famous window and looked out over Buttermere. The view made me stop still. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to breathe slower and just take it all in. Buddy, of course, didn’t notice the view – he’d already flopped down in the only patch of sunshine, snoring happily.
🐾 Buddy: The Nutter
YESSSSS! Big adventure time! We got to this stone house thing (Dad said “bothy”) and it smelled amazing. Old wood, damp stone, a million sniffs in every corner. I found the best sunbeam EVER and rolled in it. Perfect nap spot secured. Teddy was over at the window pretending to be all deep and mysterious, but I know he was just jealous of my warm spot.
After that we climbed rocks, and oh my dog – the views! I bounced up every boulder, did zoomies across the path, nearly forgot which way we were meant to go. Teddy just kept plodding calmly, as if he was guiding an expedition. I like to think I was the entertainment.
🐾 Teddy: The Watcher
As the day went on we reached Innominate Tarn. Dad set the tent right by the water just as the sun began to set. The sky turned gold and pink, and the reflections shimmered on the tarn. Buddy sat very still for once, watching the colours like he’d finally understood what I see when I stop to take it all in. I stayed beside him, keeping watch over the hills as the light faded.
🐾 Buddy: Sunset Boy
That sunset though. Wow. I actually sat still. Dad said I looked “majestic” but really I was just waiting for biscuits. Still, the water was glowing, the hills were glowing, everything felt… special. Don’t tell Teddy, but I think I get why he likes to just sit and look at things.
🐾 Teddy: The Morning Shift
Night in the tent was close and cosy, the three of us bundled together. By morning the mist had crept in, curling around the mountains. I climbed a rock to take one last look, listening to the silence. The fells felt ancient, timeless.
🐾 Buddy: Morning Madness
The mist was cool, like being inside a cloud. Teddy stood all serious on his rock again, staring at nothing. I did zoomies around the tent until Dad told me to settle. Then I watched him make coffee and sniffed the air, thinking about breakfast.
🐾 Final Thoughts from Both of Us:
Warnscale gave us it all – sunshine naps, a window with the best view in the Lakes, rocky climbs, a tarn at sunset, and a misty morning that felt like magic. Dad smiled the whole way, and so did we.
Would we do it again?
Yes. But with more biscuits.
