Heat, Hills, and One Unforgettable Poodle Adventure — Teddy’s Tale 🐩
Hi everyone, Teddy here — the handsome black poodle in charge of quality control on all Dad’s adventures. Buddy comes too, but between us, I’m the sensible one.
This time, Dad decided we’d walk from Keswick to Grasmere. He said it would be “a good challenge.” I thought that meant a nice wander with plenty of treats, but oh no… it was hot, uphill, and full of things that made Dad puff and mutter under his breath.
Luckily, I had my brand-new cooling vest. Let me tell you — it’s a game-changer. Because of my dark coat, I usually get warm quickly, but this vest kept me comfortable, so I could focus on the important stuff — like sniffing out shade spots and making sure Buddy didn’t run off chasing something silly.
We stopped for water a lot, which was fine by me. And yes, I even paddled in the streams! I don’t normally like getting my feet wet, but it was so warm that I decided to join in.
Eventually, we reached Easdale Tarn. Dad was so relieved he went straight in for a swim. Buddy and I barked our heads off. I’m still not sure if we were telling him to get out before he sank or just letting him know he looked ridiculous splashing about like that.
The next day was slower. Lots of shade breaks and more paddling. By lunchtime, we were in Grasmere. The people at the youth hostel were nice and let Dad put the tent up early, so we had time for a little wander into town. The evening was calm, with families in the glamping tents nearby.
Then came breakfast — and oh, what a breakfast! Dad said it was “fabulous,” and the best part was we got some bacon. That alone made the whole trip worthwhile.
Two buses later, we were back at the caravan, paws tired but tails wagging. I think Dad’s still talking about how tough it was, but for me, it was another great adventure — and proof that even in the heat, I’ve still got it.
