Toy poodles with muddy paws, big opinions, and zero interest in staying clean, dry, or sitting on anyone’s lap.
We hike. We camp. We climb things we probably shouldn’t. And every time we’re out on the trail, someone stops dad with the same questions:
“Are they okay?”
“Aren’t they a bit small for this?”
“Shouldn’t they be... inside?”
We get it, we’re fluffy, fabulous, and smaller than your average boot, but make no mistake: we live for this stuff. Give us a jacket, a headwind, and the promise of snacks at the summit, and we’re good to go.
So here it is, our official response to the well-meaning doubters, the lapdog believers, and anyone who’s ever underestimated a curly-coated explorer.
🗣️ Things People Say to Us on the Trail
— with our thoughts, obviously.
-
“Oh, those poor little things!”
Buddy: We’re literally having the time of our lives. I just rolled in a dead thing. Best day ever.
-
“I’ll take them home with me!”
Teddy: Can you cook chicken treats and carry 17kg of camping gear? No? Then move along, Janet.
-
“They should be sitting on an old lady’s lap.”
Buddy: We’ll sit on a summit, thanks. Preferably with snacks. But sure, you bring the lap, we’ll consider it.
-
“Aren’t their legs too short for all this walking?”
Teddy: Tell that to Dad. He's the one trailing behind us on the incline. 🥵⛰️
-
“They must be freezing!”
Buddy: I’m wearing a waterproof fleece and I have my own sleeping bag. What are you wearing, Kevin?
-
“Do they even enjoy this?”
Teddy: Would you like to see my excitement twizzles? I do them just to make sure dad knows I'm excited.
-
“Aren’t you worried something will eat them?”
Buddy: We are the danger. To sandwiches, mostly.
-
“They’re like little teddy bears!”
Teddy: Thank you. I am, in fact, The Teddy. But I prefer "Trail Commander".
Because we’re not just along for the ride…
We’re leading the adventure, setting the pace, choosing the best sticks, sniffing out the path, and reminding everyone, one muddy pawprint at a time, that small dogs can do big things.
So if you see us out on the trail, curly ears flapping, tails up, Dad slightly behind, don’t feel sorry for us.
Give us a wave… and maybe a snack. We’ve earned it.
