Then vs. Now: Revisiting the Lakes with a Rucksack and a Plan"
"Ten Years On: Returning to the Fells"
It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 10 years since I threw myself into the Lake District with zero walking experience and a whole lot of misplaced confidence. I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I did know I wanted to be in the hills.
Somehow, I survived the climbs, fell in love with the landscape, and now, ten years on, I’m heading back. But this time, I’ve got a bit more know-how, a couple of wild camping nights under my belt, and two toy poodles who think they own the trail.
The plan? A multi night wild camping trip in the fells, starting near where the photo was taken. That’s Ennerdale Waterto the left, Buttermere and Crummock Water to the right. In between is the legendary Haystacks, with Blackbeck Tarn tucked below and Innominate Tarn just out of view. Somewhere out there is my camp spot, and I cannot wait to get back under the stars.
I’ll be getting in a few more practice walks with a full pack before then, but the gear’s ready, the excitement’s real, and the poodles are prepped to defend me from any mountain monsters.
Mad? Maybe.
Ready? Definitely.
Bring it on, August.
