Farewell to the Lakes

A Fond Farewell to the Lakes

Today we made the long journey back to Shropshire after four incredible weeks in the Lake District. It was a little sad to pack up and leave behind the fells, the lakes, and the wild spaces that have become our home for the summer. Teddy and Buddy have loved every muddy mile, every summit breeze, and every cosy camp, and so have I.

This trip has given us so much,  8 Wainwrights climbed, countless other peaks and crags explored, and a total of 180 miles walked. More than the numbers though, it’s the memories that stand out: early mornings on quiet paths, evenings under canvas, and the joy of sharing it all with two enthusiastic poodles at my side.

Although the end of the holiday always brings that pang of sadness, I’ve already booked us another 4 weeks in the Lakes for next summer. The thought of returning makes leaving a little easier, because I know this is just a pause, not an ending.

Until then, we’ll carry the memories of this summer with us, and keep dreaming of the paths still to be walked. The Wainwrights will wait, and so will the hills, the valleys, and the adventures still to come.

At the moment I can see me doing this for a few years

See you next summer, Lakes.
